The apartment complex fire alarm system that is... it went off this evening after a delivery truck tripped the sprinkler system somehow. This brought in Arlington's finest to spend a good fifteen minutes figuring out how to turn the darn thing off. The alarm is quite loud and quite effective! I'd just rather not hear it at 3am or 10pm thank you very much.
I started my new job on Monday. The first two days of work have been eventful if nothing else. The first day involved getting acquainted with everyone including the dreaded SIRSI library system. At the end of the day they managed to get me an official badge. This morning at 6am, I had a slightly surreal moment at Metro Center when I ran into my old boss from Library of Congress, changing trains for work. I always knew he came in early. He was delighted to see me and asked where I was working and how things were going. Then I had the fun of dealing with the morning newspapers -- 100 Wall Street Journals, zillion New York Times, another zillion Washington Posts, 18 Financial Times, etc, etc. My supervisor had warned the people picking up the papers that a new person was taking over the duties and things might be a little bumpy initially. That's an understatement. All newspaper bundles look alike, especially at the first time around. But everyone has to have that morning paper bright and early or have it for their bosses bright and early.
My day however improved nicely with an Baskin Robbins ice cream social held by the agency. To my disappointment, they did not have plain chocolate. To my intense enjoyment, they had chocolate and milk chocolate combo which was quite nice with hot fudge. Ah, bliss.
