In spite of having the best lottery number in years, I was still put on the Media West waiting list. Boo hiss.

In the practicing random acts of nostalgia: [livejournal.com profile] katemonkey has started a review blog Insert Girl's Name Here, reviewing the Sunfire romances. Remember these? Each featured one particular heroine torn between two men during some historical period. She has also started a LJ feed at [livejournal.com profile] sunfire_books.

The Olympics seriously rocked last night. For the second straight night, I found myself shouting at the television. The women's swimming relay said "Nice gold medal, guys, why don't we match that? And then for kicks, why don't we shatter the oldest world record on the books for additional funsies?" Damn that was great to watch.

And then came the men's all around. I am so glad I didn't know the outcome ahead of time. It was pure torture watching the last few rotations. After that gorgeous high bar routine, I was like "Yes!" Then I was doing the "WTF? You're absolutely kidding me!" when they were shouting "It's gold!" at Paul Hamm. He looked so cute in his disbelief. He thought he was maybe going for a bronze after the vault. Maybe I'm a cynical old skating fan, but as much as I believed Paul could nail those routines, I didn't think they'd give it to him. When they did, I was flabbergasted. And it was the closest men's event in history to boot. Apparently the poor Romanian men are complaining about the judging. Some things never change.
