I had an interesting day to say the least. After a fairly quiet morning to myself, my parents came over for a time today to help me figure what is going from the apartment either to storage or trash or Goodwill. I feel like I'm destroying family by giving away some of my stuffed animals, but it needed to happen. I did reclaim the "Giles bear" Sandy sent me when she was New Zealand. He's looking very gray and ruffled. I half expect him to intone in a stuttery English accent about taking care of his books.

Then I started getting calls from the temp agency. First they wanted to know if I knew OCLC. It's one of the few library programs/databases I haven't used, predominatly because it's the domain of catalogers, not lowly technicians like myself. Then they had a job for me for Wed and Thurs. I was excited until I remembered the second filling was supposed to be done tomorrow. So I frantically called the dentist and rearranged stuff. It's a very basic shelving job downtown, but I don't mind at this point. It'll screw up some of our cleaning/organizing plans but we can work around it.

Dad had decided he wanted to try the Melting Pot for dinner while he was here. I warned him to get reservations ahead of time, remembering [livejournal.com profile] whytcrow's story. So warned, he called ahead. The Melting Pot is quite an experience. First you choose a cheese, then a salad and then the cooking method for your main course. Fortunately my father opted for the KISS approach to fondue, recognizing that not everyone in our family loves the spicier foods. It was fascinating watching the waiter prepare and mix the cheese into a lovely silky concoction, which we dipped everything from bread to apple and carrots. The green apple pieces were surprisingly good. Then came an okay salad and after that, cooking the main course. I might have preferred fewer mushrooms and more potatoes instead. You were supposed to wait two minutes for your meat to cook, although if you wanted it a little rarer, you could cook it less. Quite heavenly. This place is not cheap, btw. I would not do this every night. However I would like to go back some night just for dessert, since my parents were so full, I had to decline the chocolate. *pouts*

While websurfing, I came upon [livejournal.com profile] hwconundrum's posts about "Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego", the old cartoon series I adored. It's being shown on Yahooligans tv online. Unfortunately the episodes are not in any order and they seem to be forgetting parts of multi-parters. [livejournal.com profile] jordannamorgan, they're also showing your "Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd century", although I know you don't have the connection/software for it. Almost makes me want to finish those Carmen stories. I always played off her interactions with Player for some reason.

That's neat to hear. SH22 is a fun little show, with nice potential in the characters. I think it's still on weekday mornings here, but I've already taped them all.

They do seem to be going in a rough kind of order (right now the earliest episodes are from the end of season 2 and now they're working through season 3), it's just that episodes like Birds Of A Feather are in the wrong place. Missing out the middle episode of a three parter is just stupid, though - I've watched those episodes now and while the 'previously' for the second (i.e. third) episode stops you from getting lost, it would still have been nice to actually see the episode! :)

Eh, well. This is Yahoo we're talking about.
