hildy89: (the paper)
Seen in a .sig file on AnimeonDVD forum:

"Anime and opera aren't all that different, actually, except for the music and the length of the skirts. Lots of hyper-theatrical people doing violent things to each other, accompanied by subtitles." -GanChan

So true. So true.

Funny how sometimes plans go astray but they work out anyway. Needing a treat after a very long week, I decided to see if I could refind the downtown B&N to compare stock against other stores. I sincerely hope we never move CVS to that store, because I could never *find* it. I did however find the Olssons there at Metro Center with a fascinating display of what I'd call "arty" graphic novels. Not the usual CrossGen/Marvel/DC mishmash, but a lot of the oddball independent titles. The science fiction bookseller was working at adding the little "recommended by staff" signs Olssons is famous for, so after not finding the regular section, I asked. Actually as it turns, they don't have a full section. The GNs they have are something of a new thing for their stores. She picked out stuff from the preview catalogs, like Diamond, for things she thought her customers might be interested in, so there aren't as much of the mainstream books. Ordinarily I'd be annoyed, but since I wound up with the next Aria hardcover and the Age of Bronze collection, I'm not complaining that much. I recommended the first Aria GN as a better intro to the series which she appreciated. She said she needed something to assuage the ugh feeling from seeing LXG.

The Age of Bronze is Eric Shanower's retelling of the Trojan War. Lots of fun extras, like maps, names, bibliography and genelogical charts. Definitely not kiddified either. This continues a longstanding interest in Troy, encouraged by my history major father. We watched "In Search of the Trojan War" and went to several Smithsonian programs on Turkey together.

I neglected to mention my hellish commute yesterday. A Metro train broke down at the station ahead of mine, making me a half hour late to work. As a matter of fact, the only times I've been really late has been because Metro was delayed somewhere, which says something for Metro efficiency normally. I don't know if this is standard procedure, but the operator had switched on the radio, so we heard all of the commands from Control for each and every train, "Train 900, you can tell your passengers now". We already know, thank you. On my way home tonight, I heard a surprising thing: Metro apologizing for the delay taking longer than normal.
