So my mother and I did some Saturday shopping at Tysons Corner. We hit Nordstroms first because I had mentioned that my old Santana boots were getting a little worn out. We were promptly greeted by a gentleman representing Santana itself. He was clearly however not a shoe salesman, though, since he only paid attention to the length of my feet, not the width. This is a rather important feature, since my feet are quite narrow, running usually AAA or AAAA occasionally. He also seemed surprised that I wasn't overly enthusiastic about the changes to my favorite boots. These are nice lace up low heel boots. They remind me oddly of skating boots sometimes. They had added a zipper. If they had deleted the laces, I might understood why this was such a great bonus, but basically it seemed like an added nuisance to me. He also seemed non-plussed that Nordstroms chose not to carry the other version, making me wonder how hard they pushed them to carry both. They also added a slightly bigger heel, which will take some getting used to.
He inquired of my mother if we were French by any chance. Actually we are on her mother's side, French Huguenot. Why? Apparently there are a number of people with French ancestry in Texas and Louisiana and they all have rather narrow feet. Seeing as this feature runs in the family, I now know who to blame for my shoe misery.
I also bought some dressier shoes. We'll see how long they last. I'm not known for wearing dress shoes, simply because I have jobs where I'm on my feet a lot. Combined with my Metro commutes, those type of shoes don't make practical sense.
We had reasonably good luck at Comp USA for various computer equipment, including a new bag for the laptop. I also attempted to buy a mousey, only to discover that my Dell does not have a PS/2 port. Charming.
