We know they work now

I had a slightly later night than my usual. I was about to hit the bed a little after midnight when the fire alarm roared to life in the building. I hesitated more than I should have, but I wasn't walking outside in freezing cold in only my nightshirt. The fire department arrived quite promptly. Someone did notice smoke on the second floor, but we never heard what was behind it. I'm getting a little tired of going to bed at 1am though.
