Maryland Ren Fest with bling and a limp
Oct. 16th, 2005 11:36 pmHad a lovely time at the Maryland Ren Faire today with
confettiofstars,
ariadnesthread and
darthblitzkrieg. The weather stayed cool and windy throughout, but at least we didn't have to hide from the rain.
I was a little nervous about doing the Faire in the aircast. Some of those fears were justified as the grounds are very uneven in places. Most of the booths have either ramps or stairs. As long as I had something to hold onto to steady myself, I was fine. To get to one part of the grounds, I absolutely had to take the stairs because the incline was way too steep. The aircast throws off all my balance. But mostly it was reminding myself to take frequent breaks and adjust the air when it became uncomfortable. It needs to be supportive. It doesn't need to be a vise grip on my foot so it can't breathe!
My condition did provide the highlight of the day when a garbed gentleman spotted me and bid me good day. He then asked if I was in a jousting accident. Then I admitted sheepishly that it was more of a standing accident. With a beat pause, he said, "Oh, you were standing in the way of the jousting then?" It was funny and he was delightfully charming.
I acquired a new necklace from Moon Angel with a dark amethyst stone. You could pick out the setting, the length of the chain, even the actual stone. I don't wear a lot of jewelry, per se, but I did like this setting a lot. I tend to like the single pendant pieces more than the elaborate pieces.
