Vampire Killing kit sold at Sotheby's auction for $12,000
http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_834134.html

"The kit, a walnut box that also contained a crucifix, a pistol, a rosary and vessels for garlic powder and various serums, was bought by an anonymous phone bidder.

According to Sotheby's, some experts believe such kits were commonly available to travelers in Eastern Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries, while others think the kits were made in the early 20th century, possibly to cash in on interest in vampires sparked by the 1897 publication of Bram Stoker's "Dracula."

The vampire killing kit was part of Sotheby's sale of 19th century furniture and decorative works of art.

Ooh, I want one of those. *g*

Might not be good to encourage me, though, as I've recently developed a taste for Gothic-looking crosses in the form of jewelry and decor items.

I think that's what ultimately tickled me about my ill-advised "Dark Shadows" fling this past week. When Barnabas prescribed a cross for dealing with another vampire, I was far too amused.

Are you or have you been a watcher of the series?

I watched a few episodes of the revival series with Ben Cross, but never the original. I think my mother actually remembers watching the original "Dark Shadows". At one point, I had both of the movies, but I'm not sure if I kept them or not.

I taped the "House of Dark Shadows" film last month, which is what originally got me into all this trouble. (I understand the other one has no Barnabas, and hence, no interest on my part.) I do remember seeing a couple of episodes of the 1991 series way back when Skiffy had the Series Collection
in primetime, but I only remember Jean Simmons and some rather bloody neck-biting.

My father used to tell me about how he'd race home from school on his bike to be in time to watch the original. He wouldn't be nearly so enthused nowadays, I'm afraid.
