Only one NFC team claims my allegiance, so I've found myself rooting for the "other side" lately, mostly the Patriots. In this area, though, you're more liable to find Eagles fans. Even my apartment building had a balcony draped with a Philadelphia banner.

I was amused last night when the Patriots started out on defense. I quoted a line from "The Replacements" and asked Ted Bruschi to "get me the ball". In the first few minutes, he almost delivered, although the instant replay called it back. Cassandra thy name is...

Sunday was extremely dull. I didn't get a thing done, especially not writing wise. I mostly watched some football. With the Redskins out, I can watch and cheer for whoever. When the season comes back around, then I can return to old form. I haven't seen Washington this excited about the upcoming season since... hmm... ever? I cheered for the Colts, but was sad to see Green Bay lose in OT. I remember a time when I would have been horrified to find myself rooting for an AFC team, mostly because of a certain Raiders Super Bowl in my memory.

I found myself engrossed in A&E's Biography on Paul Newman. Now there is someone who has aged extremely well like a fine old wine. Sometimes Newman seemed so serious and other times they'd show him cracking jokes, like the footage from "Towering Inferno" with him and Steve McQueen.

Then A&E did a "behind the scenes" feature on "Return of the King". They messed with my head quite nicely by showing an orc strumming his sword like an air banjo and singing "Rainbow Connection". And of course Orlando Bloom talking about "elf envy" because the movies seemed to have the running joke that humans were these smelly muddy sorts while the elves were these pristine perfectly coiffed sorts.

2003 started off with rain and now has yielded to a very strange fog. Very weird weather patterns we're having here.

Even though I'm living alone, my New Year's traditions haven't changed. I watched the Tournament of Roses parade and oohed at the floats, especially the cute one with the skating rink. Now a bowl game is playing on television while I'm doing laundry, even though Alabama is banned from bowl games for a few years. It's vastly amusing watching Notre Dame being humiliated right now by NC State... I don't know why. If I was home, Dad would be flipping between all of the games, maybe settling on one, maybe not. They'd set up the table by the television so we would munch before the Rose Bowl started.

All the while, I'm stitching or writing or web surfing, whatever strikes my fancy. At least I don't have to check in mail, though I'd be getting ready to go home by now.
