Today was a day of sadness and gifts. The sadness came early in the day on learning that a close friend in Canada lost her mother to a sudden heart attack today, two days before Christmas.

The gifts came in the usual Christmas forms: books, clothes and chocolate... not necessarily in that order.

Since I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon, I felt no compunction in opening some gifts early. The parents' presents arrived today courtesy of the Great Brazilian River. Some nice new reading material, including Perfect Prince about Perkin Warbeck. My aunt and uncle sent a very pretty blue scarf and sweater which alas will be too warm to wear in Florida. I'm really downheartened about spending Xmas in the 70s... not really, though the palm trees will still freak me out.

The chocolate came from work. The library receives many thank you gifts and "tokens of 'steem" from our regular vendors. Sometimes it will be really weird bric a brac and sometimes they send candy or popcorn. Rather than trying to go through at the office, my group decided to hold a raffle this year, so most people took home a box or two of goodies. Our fearless leader said "If you don't like, swap for something you do." Alas both of the people who received the Lindt chocolates wouldn't give them up. Very sad. So instead I have a box of French "organic truffles" and "Esther Price" chocolates. The latter may get sacrificed to the New Year's eve party.

Alas no Ghiradelli to be had... someone else got the Godiva.

I've never had Godiva, which is probably just as well, given the expense. However, chocolate milkshakes from the Ghirardelli shop are a must when visiting Downtown Disney.

I prefer Ghiradelli to Godiva myself. My father loves the Ghiradelli mini squares, but he has had a hard time finding them in his corner of Florida.

Really? I tend to find them at Barnie's Coffee shops (which are all over the place here).

There's a Ghirardelli shop at the old Universal Studios park too, but it was always closed during Halloween Horror Nights.

I'm not much for Godiva chocolates, but their flavored hot cocoa is wonderful.

Ghiradelli is very good (was so very happy when they started carrying the baking squares in my local supermarket), as is Lindt (mmmm... Lindt...) but I've been utterly spoiled by the local chocolatier -- oh, evil, evil. I keep reminding msyelf that I am a chocoholic and I will not stop at one.. or two.. or ten...

A friend occasionally brings me hand-made truffles from Belgium. He is an evil man. I think I'll keep him. *grin*
