Skating and Martians and really really cold weather
Today was cold. I don't think I really need to go further than that. I had good intentions of going to the CVS writing marathon at Panera. I must have just missed a bus at the Metro station. After a bitterly cold wait for nearly an hour, I opted to go home to warmth as I was having trouble feeling hands, toes and face. Very frustrating experience.
I came home to work on laundry and watch US Nationals. My skating comments are over in
mad_season. I was mostly happy with the results with a few disappointing exceptions. Worlds should be interesting anyway. They're being held in Dortmund, Germany this year.
And clearly I am my father's daughter. The NASA channel is one of his favorite ones, watching mission briefings and Q&A sessions all the time. I've replaced my desktop background with one of Mars. I read an interesting article about the science fiction reaction to the Mars exploration.
sailormac had mentioned that she hadn't seen any signs of little men in Roman armor wandering around the surface. And alas, I didn't seen any fuzzy red aliens with sneakers either... poor Gossamer.

So what if they gave a marathon and nobody could get there... I tried to go too, with better results than you (yikes! your poor body!) since I had a warm car, but the place was empty of writers when I got there. I floated the idea of a slightly later marathon on the e-list, haven't seen any replies yet.

They did seem slightly disorganized this time around as far as "were we or won't we having one?" Usually we would have broken for dinner at 5pm, so I'm surprised no one was there, but maybe they figured to cut their losses. I could probably manage a later marathon if I didn't have to work the next day, which would limit it to a Saturday.
Did you get my email with the writing prompts?

I like Jen's notion of having a 1pm marathon next weekend. That's still early for me, but at least there's a better likelihood of having people still pounding upon their keyboards when I show up. :) I'm sorry for snarking about it, it's just incredibly hard for me to commit to things when I'm having a flare-up (which is like every other bloody week, thanks to the weather) especially if it means getting up early.
I did get the prompts, thanks. :) I think they're a bit... general? No, that's not quite the word I'm looking for, since something like "write about a wedding" or "rewrite a fairy tale" is also general. I think the trouble is that I'm getting situation prompts when I really need a character prompt first, since I do well coming up with situations (an artifact of GMing for years, I suspect) but have more issues with the characters. I *almost* bit on one I saw on a webpage (Lillian and Julie are sorority sisters at an Ivy League college. They are at odds. Why?) but it would make my teeth hurt to write a Greek character. Even if I did have a nifty idea of her being a clone in the midst of an X-Filish government plot.
I think I'm babbling. I don't think I know what I'm looking for till I trip over it. Although I've never had such a great collection of ideas for others. :) I really do appreciate the help.
