CVS had its usual writerly meeting, critiquing one of our members. I actually wrote a scene earlier today in something other than fanfic. The piece is based off a song I heard on Natalie MacMaster's beautiful "Blueprint" album, but I need to find ways to twist it further so it isn't just a straight retelling. (For those not watching [livejournal.com profile] wabbitseason, my fannish LJ, I've been writing pieces based on my user icons for friends, so far covering Babylon 5, Highlander, and Clamp's "Shirahime-Syo" manga. I still have X-men and Indy Methos/PW to write which will make my weekend interesting.)

I also talked to Jen about joining her new "Changeling" campaign, since I'm feeling the urge to do face-to-face gaming again. I listen to the current campaign and smile and nod a lot. In some ways, I'm glad not to have the emotional baggage, but another part of me feels a little left on the sidelines. I just need more data on the kith and their types. I listened to the initial descriptions. Eshu sounded interesting, but not quite where I wanted to go. Fox lover that I am, it would be too tempting to play a kitsune or its ilk. But on the other hand, I like the idea of playing a snarky noble manuevering things in the background. I'm just not sure whether I could play her in person.

Tina, was "Changeling" one you had played? Our GM is doing some tinkering, so hopefully we'll minimize the worst aspects of the game.

Oh, yeah, I've played Changeling. Oy. Love the game, hated most of the players. But if you know the group, and they're trying to minimize the worst aspects of the game, it might work better for you.

Not sure about the Asian kith, as I pretty much stopped buying White Wolf books before they released that one, but out of the standards? Sidhe are hard to play right. Sluagh are actually very interesting, though, and if you wanted to work the needlepoint and crafting in instead of the storytelling, you could consider a boggan.

Keep me updated!

The GM didn't like how the Asian kith were written up, so there'd be a bit of redoing to go that route. We have one slaugh already. He even has the creepy voice down pat. The boggan sounds like a possibility. Why are sidhe so hard to play? I'm not that familiar with the game, so anything you tell me or info online you can direct me to will be appreciated muchly.

Trust me, you don't even want to get me started on White Wolf and their Asian stuff. Or, for that matter, their views on Western civilization. I'll just simplify it and say to go to this webpage and check out the "Kill Whitey Law."

Sidhe are hard to play because there's a commoner/noble divide in Changeling that--in my opinion--gets incredibly silly. So if you're playing in a group that's supposed to be cohesive, it could happen that as a Sidhe you're not able to go with the rest of the group due to obligations as a noble, or the players of non-nobles might be upset with a noble character. It's...weird. And I got slammed when I played a Sidhe Countess, so I might be overly bitter also. But imo, everyone suspects the worse of a Sidhe.

And let me see if I can hunt up some good online resources for you and post them, okay?

Thanks for the resources. The [livejournal.com profile] graywalkers is coming up as not being there. I'll go through some of the others later, but the boggan sounds promising. I could play the friendly helpful sort pretty well. The gossip connection makes sense since they're also meddlers of a sort. I can see them in sewing circles and their ilk.

Oddly being apart from the others was the reason the sidhe appealed to me, but I can understand what you're saying. We do have one sidhe character already. I remember the lone time I tried Vampire the GM tried to discourage us from playing lots of Gangrels since they were loners. I'm sure Changeling is way different in that respect. And I do know we're supposed to be theoretically a team, if pulled by other loyalties besides our friendships. We'll see.
