She moved through the Faire

GIP from
wiliqueen. I do miss "Witchblade", even if it got a little weird in the second season.
*whew* It’s been busy around here lately. What’s the old saying about it being either feast or famine? Obviously I’ve hit the flood stage. After two days of the shelving job, I tried to run some organizing errands with my parents. I have fewer boxes, which helps in the space issues in this apartment. I now have a lovely coffee table from Value City with two large drawers and tray area underneath. It’ll take some getting used to. I keep bumping into the one corner. We also upgraded my cell phone, after a wild goose chase trying to find the store. Proof positive you can live here for years and still have no clue where you are in Northern Virginia. There was some sad family news, so my parents will be taking a detour before heading back home.
Saturday I finally had the opportunity to meet
confettiofstars’s three cats, after hearing the stories. They all more than lived up to their respective reputations. Osama parked himself in front of me, determined to win me over. Hard to argue with a fluffy stubborn Himalayan! He spectacularly missed his dex roll trying to climb on the sofa while we were leaving, sliding off into a large ball of fluff. Amanda stalked through and mostly ignored me. Luna, bless her, crept forward and then disappeared when I tried to pet her.
Then I enjoyed a delightful time at the Maryland Ren Faire with
confettiofstars,
darthblitzkrieg and
ariadnesthread. Believe it or not, I have never actually been to a Ren Faire. I've wanted to, but the plans always fell through at the last minute. I was prepared for things to be a little more lax than the SCA events I attended with a lot more skin and spandex, but there were enough people in pretty garb to suffice. I was glad I brought the hooded jacket and gloves, because the weather turned cold, windy and briefly wet. We spent a lot of time poking through all the shops, looking at all the pretties. The costuming stuff could be very dangerous, indeed, especially the hair nets/snoods and the cloaks.
Dinner at Macaroni Grill featured someone trying for the Worst Waiter of the Year award. It didn’t matter what he tried. He’d forget to refill drinks regularly and kept forgetting what we were drinking. The dinners arrived five minutes after the appetizers showed up and then they brought out the wrong veal dish for
ariadnesthread. The manager was stern and apologetic. "I will deal with him." I suspect there was a tongue lashing afterwards. Another waiter was training in voice, specializing in opera, so several people heard "Happy birthday" in Italian in a decent tenor. All of the waiters seemed determined to charm and make points with the people directly behind us. *rolls eyes*
I only have one interview on Monday now. Apparently my previous experience at LC actually worked against me, since I guess the bosses don’t believe in second chances. Oh well, I really didn’t feel like running all over the place anyway. I’m hoping the interview opens up some new opportunities for me. Tuesday will be the second dentist appointment and then I have three more days of the shelving job. I need to repeat “It’s a paycheck” mantra over and over again, because it has very little to recommend it otherwise.
I’ve mostly caught up with G4TechTV’s ROD TV showings. The show is the perfect anime to be watching before Nano, since Nenene is a writer struggling to recapture her gift. Books and reading also feature prominently, but some of the best moments for me are when Nenene is trying to express why she needs to write, why she must write, almost like the voracious need of Maggie and Michele to read. I knew they’d pick an awful episode to break off on, since the split between the first half and back half is very distinctive. The first thirteen episodes are very character driven, almost slow and melancholy, punctuated by a few "Twilight Zone" episodes that make you go "Huh?" The second half of the series is extremely action packed, usually ending with a cliffhanger from hell.
