My god! Is it April or February outside? The highs will be somewhere in the 40s today, with rain for most of the day. The only consolation is knowing most of the Atlantic seaboard is getting hit with the same weather, possibly snow in some parts. Mother Nature, could you get you get in touch with yourself, please?

First interview is over. This could be fairly interesting working for a national association rather than a government agency. Some different aspects to the job, more reference and info searching. They don't use SIRSI which is good. They don't use Faxon which is *equally* good. The job would be a permanent one eventually, although I had the impression the timeframe on that depended on whether they wanted to try the person out first or not. Only major minus so far appears to be the decision making. There could be another set of interviews with someone even further up. And the location could be "fun" commute... trust me, you don't want to smell the Potomac on a rainy day.

At least the apartment has returned to normal. They must have thought spring had finally come and switched to a/c, prompting a cooldown *every* morning weekend. Waking up to a freezing apartment is not my ideal.

More on second interview when I come back.

The second interview went reasonably better than the first one, but I worked at LC before, so I know their system. The job will be a temp position with the Copyright division, lasting about a year. My major concern about the workload may be adjusting to a different division's way of doing things. Then there's the timeframe. The job wouldn't start until May 1st. I cannot stay out of work that long and manage my bills... not without hitting up the parental units, which I'd like to avoid. To say I'm frustrated is being kind.

One useful thing I learned though: Jasper Fforde is appearing at LC on April 11th. At some point, I'll have to find his new "Lost in a Good Book". Nutty series, but fun.

I did some research in the Current Periodical Reading Room as well, delving into the online archives of turn of the century newspapers. Think it's hard to find skating coverage in your local newspapers? Try searching for that initial report of Madge Syers' first appearance at Worlds against the guys. A small article came up, simply stating the facts, with the no muss or fuss about the oddity of "Mrs. Edgar Syers" finishing second behind Ulrich Salchow.
