Read or Die and DVRs
Jun. 18th, 2003 06:14 pmSo Comcast installed the new Digital Video Recorder. Apparently they're testing it in two areas, including mine, so I get in on the ground floor. Nifty setup, only about 50 hours compared to 80/90 for Tivo. If I don't like it, they'll simply switch off the hard drive portion of the device. Potentially it could save me a lot of VHS tape if I'm not offloading that much. For instance, I'm trying out the "X-men: Evolution" cartoons on Cartoon Network for curiosities' sake. I can record them and erase them afterwards if I wanted, no tape expended and no having to worry about what channel it's set on. Tivo probably has a better search setup for finding programming you want.
Also acquired a rather amusing anime series called "ROD: Read or Die" featuring what bears a cursory resemblance to the Japanese animation equivalent of Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next. Only three half-hours episodes, but supposedly there is also a manga series and sequel tv series in the works. I've heard so-so reviews of the actual story itself, but we shall see.
