My favorite goddess. I should be amused or surprised. Or not.

Meh. There must be something going around. I don't know why I've been feeling down and restless lately, even downright isolated at times. Probably a sure sign of something, if I was smart enough to take the blatant hint.

With Cafe Tirolo being closed for dinner hours, I've been hunting to no avail for a nice dinner spot. (Tara Thai seems to be closed for dinner as well, making me wonder if the building itself is having problems.) So on Sunday I decided to try out the Front Page Grill at Ballston, which replaced the Pizzeria Uno that was at that corner. Their gimmick is to have the front pages of famous headlines posted around the restaurant. I found myself staring at a newspaper announcing the funeral of JFK and Oswald's death. They have a rather large bar, but even tonight at dinner, it wasn't insanely loud. They have standard grill fare and a brunch on Saturdays and Sunday. Also a very cute Irish waiter from Cork. Not quite as nice on the ears as our post-Nano party guys, but pretty close enough.

Elvish is hobbitforming: Second article on learning Elvish with also side discussions on other constructed languages. It mentioned the Voynich manuscript and Codex Seraphinianus as other examples. I came across an article in the Economist about a recent attempt to solve the Voynich one. The 16th century manuscript is a 234 page book of fantastic beasts, zodiacal signs and naked ladies. was named after the antiquarian bookseller who distributed copies of the book trying to get a translation. Ninety years later, they're still looking.
