I wish I could go to the Festival!
Oct. 8th, 2006 05:56 pmYesterday was the annual pilgrimage to the Maryland Renaissance Festival with
confettiofstars and her husband. Despite the chilly drizzly weather, the mud wasn't as bad as expected and the crowds were relatively lighter.
I was a little disappointed to discover that the Mediaeval Baebes played the Festival the previous weekend when I was in Luray. But
eiluned has some lovely pictures of the event though.
The shopping was the highlight of the visit. I did buy two new pretties. I acquired a new garnet necklace from Moon Angel to go with the amethyst one I bought last year. I also bought a coin struck by a pair of entertaining gentlemen at Somewear Beyond Coin Mint. You could choose a variety of designs and types of coins. Each time they struck their coin with their hand-cranked machine, they'd offer some snappy remarks. You had to make sure to get in your order in time because "the king shut off the gravity promptly at 7pm". I bought a silver one stamped with a fox on one side and the Chartres labyrinth on the other.

From their website, it appears we were there for Celtic Weekend. At closing time, merry pipers led everyone out of the Festival. Nothing maudlin for these pipers. It felt like something you'd kick up your heels to. The entertainment didn't stop once you got into the parking lot. Some gentleman was playing and singing along to a rendition of "The Scotsman". Not the song I want stuck in my head for the rest of week.
ariadnesthread took time away from her busy work and school schedule to join us for dinner at Macaroni Grill.
