According to Kenneth Johnson, NBC is apparently interested in doing a complete remake of the V mini-series. I'm leery of remakes, especially for old favorites. How many of them have lived up to the original? "V" was one of my first fandoms, in the sense I collected anything I could find on the series. I had all the Pocket books and comic book adaptation. I even cretaed a little shuttlecraft in one of my old computer camp programs. Jane Badler was one of my favorite villainesses and how could I not like a character with nearly my own name?
To add to my concerns, Johnson reports the WWII references will be changed to something more topical. Now granted a generation of Holocaust survivors have died since the original version aired, but I still find that historical connection one of the strongest of the original. The old man telling the kids to paint a "v for victory" on the propaganda posters... the fifth column within the Visitors... besides do I really need an alien version of "24"?
Johnson also was responsible for "Alien Nation" which explored similar "us and them" or "them among us", depending on how you perceive it. I hope he keeps those themes in mind while penning this "remake". I don't hold out a lot of hope.
