*taps foot impatiently* The watched torrent never arrives obviously. Still waiting.

I finally cleared off Worlds off the dvr. Sparkly pants have apparently made an unfortunate comeback in men's skating. I was nearly blinded by the costumes in some of those exhibitions.

I was startled to see a "Deep Sea Detectives" promo during one show. They've started new episodes on the History Channel and even started a new website for the show. I'm quite miffed because I've missed so many episodes already. History Channel International has started airing the sequel to "Spitfire Ace" called "Bomber Crew". I've missed the first episode of that, but they do usually repeat the series afterwards. "Dead Famous" is showing new episodes as well. Last week's episode featured the search for Rita Hayworth's ghost. That marked the first time I'd seen them acknowledge on camera that a "star" might have two personas. Rita underwent a massive change from the hispanic Margarita Cansino to the red haired goddess of "Gilda" and "Cover Girl". Usually when they did seances or tried to contact the ghosts, they always used the star name, the one given by Hollywood. Would Judy Garland answer to Judy or Frances? Marilyn or Norma Jean?

Last year Gail Porter developed alopecia, a condition that caused her hair to fall out. Rather than offer any explanations on screen, they just went about their business in the show. Gail has been wearing head scarves occasionally, but basically nothing has changed. She's just as skeptical as before and Chris still tries to change her mind.

Upon reflection, I realized that all of the above shows are British made, which says a lot about my viewing habits, doesn't it? Or the sad state of American tv.

V remake?

According to Kenneth Johnson, NBC is apparently interested in doing a complete remake of the V mini-series. I'm leery of remakes, especially for old favorites. How many of them have lived up to the original? "V" was one of my first fandoms, in the sense I collected anything I could find on the series. I had all the Pocket books and comic book adaptation. I even cretaed a little shuttlecraft in one of my old computer camp programs. Jane Badler was one of my favorite villainesses and how could I not like a character with nearly my own name?

To add to my concerns, Johnson reports the WWII references will be changed to something more topical. Now granted a generation of Holocaust survivors have died since the original version aired, but I still find that historical connection one of the strongest of the original. The old man telling the kids to paint a "v for victory" on the propaganda posters... the fifth column within the Visitors... besides do I really need an alien version of "24"?

Johnson also was responsible for "Alien Nation" which explored similar "us and them" or "them among us", depending on how you perceive it. I hope he keeps those themes in mind while penning this "remake". I don't hold out a lot of hope.

GIP from [livejournal.com profile] iconic_notions. Between this and the Paul Newman one, I obviously like old Hollywood blonds.

A&E has been running the old episodes of MI5 on Fridays, so I've been playing catchup. The only one I'd actually seen was the ASH episode in season one. Ironically, that was the one A&E screwed up, somehow having the right sound but Imus in the Morning as the video for the first half. *blinks* And there's Hugh Laurie using his real accent... how amusing.

We have a release date for HP Book 6. Mark your calendars for July 16, 2005 for Half Blood Prince.

While I was packing, I finished watching PBS' "Regency House Party". I'm glad I watched. I haven't enjoyed any of the previous programs in this vein, because casting always seem to pick the whiniest most annoying group they can find. This group did whine, especially the ladies, but for some reason, I didn't mind it as much. You really had a sense of the differences in status in the house from their accomodations to their leisurely activities to marching in at dinner. The chaperones were an irritating group of snobby old married women. The hostess reminded me of an old Dame Judi Dench without any of her charm, all nails on chalkboard. If you didn't do something exactly or if you crossed them, you were in for the long one. The boys were all nice British eye candy, especially Everett and Glover. Everett reminded me of Hugh Grant with his voice and mannerisms. He was in the theater so maybe it's just an English theater affectation. I did desperately want to shake some sense into Miss Hopkins sometimes, but she settled on the "better" choice in the end. This almost makes me want to read or write a Regency romance...

According to Tim Minnear, "effective immediately" Wonderfalls is cancelled. Moving the show to Thursday was such a bright move Fox. Could you kill it any faster? At least I still have the last three on the DVR to watch. Not that I was really attached to the show... yet. I was willing to give it a chance though, unlike Fox.

Thank you [livejournal.com profile] normadesmond for alerting me about this new wrinkle in the war on television. Apparently they're trying choosing which shows are worthy of being closed captioned with the concern the programming might be too intense/violent/etc for hard of hearing viewers. What's next? Will you caption every other feature on the news shows so the deaf don't have to hear about the problems of the world?

Musings

I finally got around to watching my tapes from last night. "Alias" was another great episode, though I'm about ready to throttle Jack Bristow. (And Victor Garber manages that sinister but remote "Dear old Dad" thing *so* well) Who's the manipulator here - Mom or Daddy?

I also watched TNT's "The Big Time". After their treatment of "Witchblade", I marvel that I can say nice things about this network, but they still manage to put together some quality original movies occasionally. This one was set at the dawn of television in the 1940s. "Big Time" had the nostalgic feel of "Remember WENN", but *with* a budget. It's a pity TNT didn't pick up the option for a continuing series for this one. There was a lot of potential in the different characters and interplay. Even if I wanted to slap that golden boy ad man every once in awhile...

Work was the usual mess. Our delivery service included a misdelivery for a different location, plus left off some regular papers. The real load of mail didn't arrive until I was already printing out tomorrow's routing slips so I could leave. Our stay-in-school CJ student left Friday for a real job as a "community officer", which in DC parlance means parole officer.
