Hechts/Macys

First it was Garfinckels. Then we said goodbye to Woodward & Lothrop.

Now Hechts has been bought out by Federated Department Stores that owns Macys & Bloomingdales. A bunch of stores will affected. The local news pointed out as an example that if the merger goes through, Federated with have three anchor stores at Tysons I - Hechts, Lord & Taylor and Bloomingdales. That's not even counting the Macys across the street at Tysons II. So the landscape of our local shopping is changing.

The May company, which most have owned Hecks, just bought Marshall Fields from Target. So n ow Lord and Taylor and BloomingDales and Fields are all owned by the same company. All three stores are in the Chicago area. Their bound to start closing stores.

Yeah, another store that is affected is Filene's. (I dunno if you have them down your way, I think they are mostly a New England chain.) Our amlls up here are going to change too.

Department stores are barely a blip on my radar, but yes, the buyout thing is getting way out of hand. I'm still creeped out by the fact that all the Eckerd's drugstores have become CVS drugstores. Eckerd's was around all my life, but I'd never even heard of CVS until I went to Binghamton.

All of our Lazarus' just became Macy's. One good thing came out of it.. We get Melinda's Macys commercials now. Whheee! LOL
