[livejournal.com profile] menikoff tagged me with the "guilty pleasures" meme, which eventually I'll get around to. Tonight included one of the traditions I've maintained since I moved into the apartment: popcorn night. Mom bequeathed me the air popper for Very Important nights, like figure skating and the Oscars. It's also become a tradition for Sci Fi Friday.

The other big event is Miss America. As long as I can remember, I've always watched it. We have our little lists of the top tens and what their talent was. I always find one girl that interests me. Occasionally I've been right, but not usually. I do give a good cheer for the local VA/DC/MD triad. Both DC and VA were wiped out in the final final round this time around, which was depressing. I liked DC's tap dancing routine. I winced at Virginia's "Jekyll & Hyde" rendition though. A lot of dancers this year. But no firebreathing baton twirlers or cloggers...

I had my doubts about the move to CMT, but the show was nice. Streamlined and classic with just innovation without being too much. I didn't think the party added anything. But no techno-ized music and trivia contests, just the final question. Can't go too wrong with Jamie Denton, looking quite nice in black tux.

Overall I was pleased with the results.

I saw the show live from the Aladdin in Las Vegas. I think MAO made the right move by moving the pageant to Vegas. The Aladdin theatre is gorgeous, and the stage looked elegant. James Denton looked nice, too. :)

One more day here in Vegas, then I'm heading home to NOLA. I had a blast this week at Miss America, and I hope the pageant comes back here next year.
