"It's 90 degrees, have mercy, John please..."

Sorry I'll stop singing. (Be glad it isn't Nelly!) But it's really really hot out there, which I'm sure is not news to anyone. Ironically my apartment felt fine when I came home. Alas the humidity crawled in over night and made it unbearable.

One last follow-up from this year's Media West. The last t-shirt I ordered finally arrived, so I can celebrate the new Stargate seasons in style. Unfortunately it's too hot for me to wear them. Oh well, at least I won't be able to bemoan the lack of fannish t-shirts for next year's con.

I signed up for a writing submission slot in August. I'm contemplating rewriting the first couple of chapters for "Where or When". It'll be the first time I've submitted any of my Nano related material. I'm hoping it'll help me jump start finishing the damn thing.

Still contemplating the New York trip for my birthday. I realize late August is probably the worst time to visit the Big Apple, but the only other time will be in October for that manga convention and I may not be able to make it up to the city from there. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Actually that was sorta my attitude going in. It's awful in DC anyway, why should I stick around and have a miserable birthday at home when it can be elsewhere?

Considering the fact it's been over 15 years since I've properly "done" New York, there's a lot I'd like to do, just in the general touristy sense. The main shopping fronts are shoes and manga. I have a list of a couple Japanese bookstores in New York I'd like to visit. And I'd like to see if there are any shoe stores that carry narrower (AAA) widths, since someday, someone will want me to wear something other than sneakers. The other thing is suggestions on where to stay.

*blinks twice*

*yanks brain back from Very Wrong Place*

*ahem*

There's a place on the upper west side called "Harold's Shoes" or "Harry's Shoes" or something like that; they stock an amazing range of brands and sizes.

No ideas on where to stay, though; having lost my usual doss I'm looking for a relatively clean, cheap hotel m'self.

when are you coming??? Are you both coming together? Let me know and if Gregory and Yumiko aren't in, the guest room is yours. I know he's coming in at some point to take pictures up at the house and Yumiko plans to stay in NYC but I don't get the impression they are staying for long.

We're not travelling together, but I'm looking for a bed on August 11... interested in Bollywood? Or Drowsy Chaperone? I'm coming up for a premiere that was filmed entirely in NYC on Friday night, and thinking of staying to see a matinee the next day.

Damn!!!! I'd love to see Drowsy Chaperone but I won't be around that weekend. We are doing a Mom Birthday thing up in CT that weekend. And they already scheduled the whole thing around my request for that weekend instead of her actual birthday - so I can't ask them to change it.

Shoot. It (Chaperone) supposed to be really good too.

Yeah, that's why I want to see it while I'm in town. S'okay; I can either stay out of town in the hotel w/friends by the airport, or possibly blow off some more AmEx points and get a hotel in town.

well, as all and sundry know - my guest room (when not occupied by relatives) is always open so when you start looking at specifics, let me know. If my brother isn't in there - you can always stay with me. I'm not HUGELY convienent to tourist sites (being pretty much as east as you can go in Manhattan) but I'm not HUGELY far from them and transportation is easily accessible.

And I have airconditioning.

Air conditioning is god. Public transportation is our friend. Now it may have different lines and squiggles than I'm used to, but that I think I can figure out. The birthday is the 26th of August. I was thinking of coming up Friday evening after work and leaving that Monday afternoon. All hinging on Amtrak cooperating.

Amtrak ought to be no problem. People do that very schedule all the time.

I'll drop my brother a line to see what his travel plans are and I'll let you know when I hear from him (most likely tonight or tomorrow). But my impression is that he isn't coming out then so I don't think it's a problem.
