Strung up by his Manolo Blahnik stilettos...

The Post's Express often posts little questions and answers from Manolo the Shoeblogger from those requiring footwear. However he has quite expensive tastes. He never met a wedge he didn't like. Today, bless our readers' hearts, someone raked him over the coals for suggesting a $275 Stuart Weitzman shoe from Zappos after the question specifically stated they were "on a budget" and "didn't make much". Obviously, Manolo thinks that's no excuse and you should still embrace your inner Carrie Bradshaw. Personally I'd take his suggested shoe and go around and look at similar styles. I did cringe at the reader's own suggestions of Nine West & Steve Madden for sensibly priced nice shoes, only because I couldn't wear them if I tried. I'm afraid what he'd suggest for my slender feet.

Have you tried? My Steve Madden clogs with the 4 1/2" platforms (heel only about 1" higher than the sole) are lighter than my tennies, and I'd happily run around the block in them. I don't know what the heck polymer the soles are made of, but I was insanely happy when I found a black pair at the thrift store several years back that were identical to the brown ones I bought in NYC in '97.

(My Nine West maryjanes, OTOH, are clunky as all hell. But they were too cute to pass up for $4 and obviously never worn.)

Assuming the issue isn't the wedge/platformness itself, of course. In which case, yeah, not much to find from either brand...

My issue is width really. I wear a 8AAA and walk out of most regular/medium width shoes. I would love something wedgy or MaryJanish, but I haven't had a lot of luck. Hence shoe angst.

Ah! Comprehension, and sympathy. Only my heels are narrow, oddly. So the clogs with anklestraps have worked out very well.

Ah, we all have our shoe crosses to bear. I have such wide feet I usually end up buying men's shoes.
