Christmas in August

I had dinner last night with
confettiofstars last night. Afterwards, we continued with some writing and discussing and nattering. It ended even later than our usual. I hope we don't try to break that record any time soon. But it was good to hear a writing critique from someone not intimately familiar with the fandom I was working in. I still need to do some rewriting to get it perfected, but at least it wasn't a complete disaster. Neither was the CVS critique actually, but those revisions will be far more extensive. As usual I need to have my characters do, rather than think.
So Netflix brought me more Slings & Arrows and West Wing. Slings & Arrows continued to delight and amuse, especially the relationship between Oliver, Geoffrey and Ellen. I've found ways to acquire the second season, so I can continue on with the New Burbage. I do suspect that dvd set will become mine at some point.
Of this disk of West Wing, I remember watching most of the episodes, except "In Excelsis Deo". I caught a lot of the first season in reruns (back when they still did them!), so maybe they opted not to rerun the Christmas episode out of season. I've heard about the episode often. I can see why it's so highly touted as one of the best episodes. It broke my heart in a million pieces. I was nearly sobbing halfway through "In Excelsis Deo" during Mrs. Landingham's story. I think I really was by the end with the funeral at Arlington. I recall doing the same with the second season Christmas episode too, so maybe Aaron Sorkin just enjoys holiday masochism. Still uplifting, but in a different sense than the usual "we have to do a holiday episode" fare.
The crossfandom insanity continues. First Dr. Cuddy showed up as a call girl and now Commander Adama is a nominee for the Supreme Court. And let's not forget Mayor Wilkins as a member of Cabinet or Q as a pollster... I still find myself adoring Marlee Matlin as Joey Lucas, even though I admit to Josh & Donna leanings all the way. God I love Josh even when he totally screws up, though it's never his fault... noooo. I so miss Leo. Sam is slowly growing on me. I didn't remember noticing the interaction between CJ and Toby the first time around really. And I still dislike Mandy and the Vice President. Abigail popped in once or twice and I kept wishing she'd stay longer.

I've been rotting on West Wing lately. Though I hadn't put in the 1st season yet. I have season 1-5.
Here's more crossfandom insanity, "Captan Amazon" from WENN was a milary guy in the 7 season of West Wing. I don't think I was able to take him seriously.
