hildy89: (apocalypse)

To clarify previous post, I'm having another bout of the strep or its variants. Not a pleasant stretch, by any means. I'd hoped I'd caught it early enough to go back to work on Monday, but I'm not faring too well today. Hence curling up on couch or bed watching videos, namely Justice League. Toons always make things better, right? Right?

I also had a chance to watch the Apocalypse West two dvd set I bought at MediaWest. I'd seen two batches of their vids, 2001 and the "Lost Years" 2002-2005. 2000 was the year I didn't attend MediaWest, so I missed their vidding debut. 2002 must have aired at a different con, although I swear I've seen a few somewhere. It was a delightful whirlwind tour through some of my old fandoms, from Buffy to Witchblade to West Wing to Babylon 5 and even Justice League. There were other fandoms I've watched from the sidelines, like SG1 and Farscape. And peppered in the mix were their Sillybits -- demented little clips that reminded me of reading the old SunS quotes lists -- random connected scenes that were even funnier put together. And of course spotting the sources of the clips used for their credits.

It's sad because I realize I saw more Buffy and Angel in these vids than I've watched in many years. I particularly loved all the Cordelia Chase vids from "And If I Fall" and "You Can Always Count on Me" and "You can't take that away from me". And the so demented "Facts of Life" one -- yes, it's all about you, Cordy, unfortunately! I was never a Buffy/Angel shipper when the show aired, but oddly "I'm not supposed to love you anymore" worked very well for me. "Everybody's Free (to wear Sunscreen)" is still hysterical.

Several Witchblade vids: "Hazy Shade of Winter" was well done. "Get Over Yourself" so hilariously suited the over-the-top Nottingham. How many times did Sara just want to tell him off? That whole chorus summed up my attitude towards him and his obsession with the Witchblade.

If my old favorite "Galileo" reminded me of all the reasons I adored "West Wing", "One Week" summed up the other reasons I enjoyed the show, focusing more on the humor.

The Farscape fans will appreciate those vids better than me, although "Comedy Tonight" was fun (constrasted with "Tragedy tomorrow"... of course!), as was "Boomerang Bang". It still has the song firmly in my head, which I always see as a good sign. Some music vids go straight in one ear and out the other, because they all sound or feel alike. The ones that don't stay with you.

I wasn't a Stargate fan when I first encountered Apocalypse West and even now I'm more of a Atlantis fan. I still loved the Goa'uld focused "Playing with the Big Boys" taken from "Prince of Egypt". "Time in a Bottle" was all the more wistful, considering the version was sung by Jim Henson.

"Thanks for the Music" tributed fans and fandom, particularly Trek fandom. "Leningrad" is still a brilliant B5 vid. I appreciated the Justice League "Lonesome Day" vid a lot more the second time around, but I might blame it on how late I saw it originally.

In short, a lot of fun to watch and reconnect with old favorite fandoms.

If you happen to upload the Goa'uld one, let me know. I know someone who'll be very interested to see it. No hurry though. She's local, so I can always show it to her when I next see her.

I've actually been meaning to upload all of mine for ages. Hopefully I'll get around to it soon.

::glee:: I'm glad you liked those. Time in a Bottle will always be at the top of my love/hate list. I never had a vid beg to be made louder, but viewer reaction was so meh.
