(I would *love* an icon from "Go Dog Go" with that caption. I'm just silly that way.)

So it's the first weekend in May when the mind turns to grandiose hats, mint juleps and thoroughbreds bottling thunder in their legs... when everyone suddenly starts worrying about bleeders and blinkers and Charlsie Canty never picks a horse...yes, I'm a Triple Crown watcher, why do you ask?

I went to see X2 last night with my writing fans. I'm glad I bought tickets online ahead of time, because all of the showings for that theater had sold out by 4pm! In deference for a certain friend who won't see it until Monday, so no spoilers, except that X2 was much better than the first movie in some respects. For the comics fans, though, the ending will make you wish for the *next* sequel.

I spent most of the day in Falls Church, visiting Hole in the Wall for Free Comics Day, with followup of ice cream at Caffeine. "Free Comics Day" seemed slightly a misnomer, since the only freebies were the ones on display, but still a nice idea. I didn't appear to have been the only one taking advantage of the chance. Or even the only one who had seen X2 and wanted to see the comic versions. That will either utterly confuse them or bring them back for more.

Hole in the Wall? Yay, it's still there. I didn't buy comics back when I lived in Falls Church (1981-85), but they carried Doctor Who books in the back room and I bought them all there. I used to walk to the store all the time to see if they had any new ones. It was my first regular used-book store and it's still one of my favorites, though I haven't been there in ten years. +

Yep, still alive and kicking, though the back room is probably more crowded than you remember. Then again, maybe not. Hole in the Wall does seem to perpetually have problems with their book piles. Geppi's Comic Store in Crystal City did bite the dust at some point. Not sure when that happened, but very inconvenient for those Metro dashes.

It took until 4pm to sell out on opening day? Hmm... I guess that's fairly promising for me, because I'm aiming for an earlier afternoon showing on Monday (if the boys cooperate). I won't know exactly until I tear into the paper tomorrow morning.

I watched the Derby from the comfort of my office here 'thome. Couldn't have a mint julep (no mint or bourbon...besides, gotta watch the alcohol for med reasons)or any Derby pie (no ingredients...though I don't eat nuts anyway). I did, though, wear my fancy pink hat whilst sitting in front of the TV.

Re: Charlsie Cantey. If she were to pick a horse, chances are that would be a conflict of interest since she trains 'em.

Next stop is Ms. Cantey's home state of Maryland [she must have relocated as she doesn't sound much AT ALL like a Marylander...I'm told she grew up in SC.] for some crab cakes (Krabby patties, anyone?) and black-eyed susans.
