One piece of good news for Remember WENN fans:
A fan on wennlist happen to see Rupert Holmes at a Broadway event in New York and asked him point blank if he would reveal the cliffhangers from the end of series. (For those who *don't* know WENN, the series ended on *three* crucial cliffhangers.) To our intense relief and delight, Holmes answered "Yes!" and explained what happened.
So here is what happened:
1. Hilary was married to Scott Sherwood who apparently needed to get married to get out of some snafu. The following season would focus on the Hilary/Jeff/Scott triangle.
2. Eugenia and Mr. Foley would take things very slowly.
3. Betty would not choose either Scott or Victor.
Ramifications galore with these scenarios. I have always been something of a closet Hilary/Scott shipper anyway, so this just makes some of my story ideas more plausible. Of course the Betty fans are howling with dismay. Personally I would have loved to watch that season, especially if the marriage wound up being more than in name only as immediately assumed. Scott and Hilary alway struck me as two con artists who have survived one too many heist. Hilary is just slightly more refined, which may be why he knocks her off the pedastal with "Hildy" all the time. Should be fun at the annual Media West discussion.
It's funny. We always groan about being Jossed in fanfic in Buffy fandom. For once, I'm glad my fanfic ideas have been blown out of the water. Although there was four years between "All Noisy" and my post-war story, so, it could still happen, though I rather prefer Rupert's end to the Scott/Victor question. To which I say, live with the consequences, Miss Roberts.

Date: 2003-05-13 05:28 pm (UTC)A) She'll choose Victor eventually
B) She'll choose Scott eventually
C) She'll choose someone as yet unknown eventually
D) She'll forgo love for a career
But at this rate, I'm of the opinion that Victor and Scott should both tell Betty they aren't some pawns in her little game and go find other people.

Date: 2003-05-15 10:16 am (UTC)Even if she didn't have feelings for both of them (and I think she has thoroughly mixed feelings of affection and exasperation for each) it's a hell of a thing to ask her to choose between life and death! I don't think that even Hilary or Cecilia, both far more realistic, cynical, and self-possessed than Betty, could make that call and live with themselves. If Victor/Scott went off to fight and died, whoever sent him from WENN would feel like a murderer. If Victor/Scott went off to fight and came back, how could Betty look him in the eye ever again knowing that she was willing to let him die? Conversely, what if she did "save" Scott, and then the implication that he needed her to "protect" him would eat them both alive.
Personally, I wanted to take a blunt object upside Victor's head the minute he demanded that Betty choose. Because personally, I think Scott -- conniving, lying, opportunistic Scott -- has treated Betty much better and has a purer, more moral love for her than Victor ever did.
My fanfic fantasy was that the mere order from Victor made Betty realize that she'd only been infatuated with him all along. Hearing that she refused to play his game gives me far more respect for her... and I was never that much of a Betty fan.
As for Betty/Jeff/Hilary... there's a short-lived triangle. Didn't she and Jeff finally make their sham marriage legitimate, even though she instantly regretted it? I don't think an official divorce ever went through, so the marriage to Scott would be illegal and therefore void.

Date: 2003-05-15 09:24 pm (UTC)As far as Jeff and Hilary's marriage, yes, they did get remarried, but by the local meat inspector. I never have understood why they didn't go to an actual JP or priest or something to get married. The only thing I can figure is that if they wanted out a second time, the legal loopholes would certainly have been much bigger.

Date: 2003-05-14 01:28 pm (UTC)I had always thought that if they did get married it was because they were having a pity party in season 3 and got drunk one night and it just happened. Now with this scenario it was done when both were in full possession of their faculties, now that's kind of scary.
