Nervous moment today

I came out of work today, glad to be leaving "early" for a change, only to discover a zillion people gathered around my Metro station, along with a police car. Keep in mind, my corner of Capital Hill has been something of an armed camp since September with police officers checking cars and blocking entrances. I'm used emptying my pockets before I step through the x-ray machines. It's just a fact of life now. But I still twitched a little when the officer in charge announced there was an emergency situation and a bomb squad had been called. According to the Washington Post report, Metro workers found a suspicious package on the platform of the station. They had to check. Again, fact of life. But still, I couldn't help thinking "Please let my parents not hear this on the six o'clock news and panic." The worst part was not knowing whether it was for real and how long the delay was going to last. The package turned out to be innocent and the Metro station reopened later. As much as I disliked having to wait to board my train, I was grateful to be home and safe.
