Okay, sorry, the mad scientist in me suddenly awoke with a vengeance. I've spent the better part of the afternoon in amidst a mass of wires and cables trying to hook up the DVD player. Somehow in the last setup attempt the vcr cable got hooked up to the cable box which does bad things, like make you reset the VCR every blessed time you turn it on or off. Finally one of the techie friends suggested trying to switch to the auxiliary channels at the end of the television channels. And suddenly there was life... a menu that simply read "Sony DVD player". And I could even play a disc! I'll have to figure out an easier way to find that aux thingie than scanning through all those channels. But at least that's solved. I was worried I'd have to replace my tv or something.
