Just a programming note: "Nashville Star" returns for its sixth season on NBC tonight at 9. Yes, it's the country music's version of "American Idol" and only fairly successful. The best known alumni are Buddy Jewell, Miranda Lambert and if you're a Canadian George Canyon. (see icon *grins*) I've been watching since year one and blogging it since the second year over at [livejournal.com profile] unionstation. The contestants are usually pretty good. Some have established careers and others are "new" on the scene. Some are better instrumentalists than singers and there's always a "original song" night. Feel free to friend if you're interested.

MWC fears

Don't get excited. I haven't heard from HIS yet. But I need to dig out my ticket number fast, because with all my purse fiasco last year, my credit card number changed. I'm hoping they'll contact me first if there's an issue like that, but I'm more afraid they'll send me straight to the waiting list. I think the last time I planned Media West this late in the game was that first spur of the moment year.

Nashville Star is over again. 29 year old Angela Hacker from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, was the victor, beating her brother Zac. She has a big soulful voice that'll remind you of Bonnie Raitt. On a random alumni note, she won me over completely last night when during the finale rendition of "Sweet Home Alabama", she added in "Roll Tide Roll!" Many thoughts and good wishes to that corner of the South after all the storms and tornadoes. That is the part I don't miss about Alabama at all.

ETA: Panicked over nothing. They don't charge the card when they process the application. That's a load off my mind. I still need to find the membership anyway and scowl at the mail if it brings me a waiting list notice.

[livejournal.com profile] neadods, aren't you a Little Big Town fan? Apparently they're supposed to perform live on Nashville Star next week.

I hesitate to call these resolutions, because I'm lousy about keeping to those sort of things. But I do have definite ideas about what I want for the coming year.

  • Get a handle on my health problems. They nearly broke my spirit in 2006 and I don't want that to happen again. I never want to feel that helpless again.

  • Organize and declutter the apartment. I'm making a good start with filing and deleting papers, but I really need to go further, especially with the wardrobe and the tape collection.

  • Write more. Finish one of the Nanos or submit one of the existing stories somewhere.

  • Listen to more music, especially the newly bought stuff. I always tend to stick with old favorites until they're worn thin. This weekend I've been putting in recent cds I've bought, like Loreena McKennitt's "Ancient Muse" and now Natalie MacMaster's "Yours Truly". (Michael MacDonald should not sing "Danny Boy" and while listening to the nicely named "Julia's Waltz", I realized "Rainbow Connection" was a waltz. Why I never realized that I have no idea.)

  • Catch up on dvds and shows before the January restarts. I really need to put together a list of when things are returning. I think I freaked my parents out over Xmas. Dad tends to mute ads as I do, until NBC announced they'd show a promo for Heroes during football. I turned to him and said "We're watching that". I've learned my Thursday nights are going to be "interesting" with Supernatural followed by Nashville Star. (I've never mentioned this, but I do have a Sekret lj for NS/country/Celticy ramblings [livejournal.com profile] unionstation. Mostly complaining about the show and occasionally a cd review will worm its way in.)
