The Met is broadcasting Wagner's "Die Walkure" this afternoon. I've been leisurely listening to it while I try to work. I was grateful for the convoluted plotlines and two intermissions when I was writing "Where or When". They interviewed several opera stars during the last intermissions with some fascinating insight on how long it takes to learn a role and singing in a foreign language. Placido Domingo allowed as how when he was just singing, rather than being artistic director and etc, he could learn a role in 10 days! That made the other two quite envious. Most took a month or more to learn, unless it was something insane but beautiful like "Tristan and Isolde".
"The Ride of the Valkyries" has just started. I am pleased with this. My Ancient Runes professor character is just shaking her head.
