And wait and watch endless Weather Channel reports most of the night. For awhile, I thought they'd never have a reporter north of North Carolina, but finally their person in Virginia Beach showed up. The Post ran the usual "I remember Agnes" story, which may prove apt. At least one report suggested Isabel may resemble Agnes in flooding terms when she blows through DC. That could be *bad* news, because we really really don't need the rain. Agnes dumped 11.5 inches of rain on Washington in 24 hours.

This is just weird. I'm used to worrying about other people during hurricanes, not me. I'm used to thinking good thoughts about friends and family in NOLA or Florida or occasionally South Carolina. And here I work in a nice ultra glassy government office building...

My New York friends are being as reassuring as they can. "Don't worry about Hurricane Isabel," they say. "It's probably going to miss us completely. The latest news is that it won't trouble anywhere but Washington DC, and that only on Thursday."

I'm still under the weather. It's looking pretty unlikely that I'll make the Thursday writing meeting anyway. Concentrating on my name would be hard, much less critiques and exercises. I'll be there in medicated spirit.

Interesting website related to a MET exhibit that just finished: "Goddess". Compares classical art influences on fashion and couture with lots of pictures.

Is it the weekend yet?
