Return engagement
Sep. 22nd, 2003 01:12 pmSo the weather-conquered heroes returned to their daily appointed tasks. At least I only have to deal with four days of papers for one office and not the hundreds of copies that I had before. I don't envy that contractor in the slightest. Both of the people I work with had power outages, with one coming back on yesterday and one still in the dark. I feel a little guilty for getting off so light.
One thing I learned after the fact was where to check for the emergency closings info online. I was checking the center's website, when it was at the building's site. We share office space with a larger agency. Would it have hurt to crosspost that information on our site?
Oh, yes, if you're a complete stranger and want to annoy me at lunch? Take the empty seat opposite me and immediately have a cellphone conversation. Actually the conversation will mostly entail you yelling the person's name into said phone repeatedly because they or you were out of range. Much as I like my phone, I try to respect other people's time and space.
OCLC is suing the Library Hotel for trademark infringment for using the Dewey Decimal system for their numbering. I hadn't even realized the system was owned by someone else. The hotel is a bit pricey, but oh so tempting for the bibliophile at heart. According to some librarians online, though, they're not even using the system right.
Jints beat us in OT. A certain African mongoose in New Jersey will be much relieved. I had alas given up when we lost the coin toss.
EDIT: Trademark, not copyright infringement. I do remember Huttenstine in Mass Comm 401 really I do!
