More on new job
May. 17th, 2004 11:07 pmSecond day of the temp assignment went well. The library system uses InMagic, yet another program I hadn't used before. I'm still weirded out by the lack of date stamping the journals or anything, but I gathered they decided it was too much hassle. My boss let me do the web updates after all, trusting the other librarian's instincts. Basically I'm htmling the "Daily News" blurbs for the association website using Homesite. Very basic work. I do have to be careful with some internal references and such, but otherwise it was pretty easy.
The association is celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, so the first thing I see on my way in the door is a table of Chinese Astrology handouts. I did a doubletake a few times that first day. Interestingly, I'm a Pig, a sign of honesty. The description fits me pretty well, including the tendency to become a fan. (I'm doomed I tell you, categorically doomed.) My least compatible sign is the Snake.
I do get my academic crack (aka Chronicle of Higher Education) back for a short period. The current issue has a long article on libraries working with search engines to make more academic/scholarly works available. Also a nice article on old time radio.
