Books and fewer dvds
Jun. 26th, 2005 05:30 pmIt's official. I reached saturation point with the "Alias" dvds. I've reached the last two dvds of the second season and finally said "Enough!" They went back to the library to inflict the Bristow dysfunction spy family on someone else.
After getting my account out of Alias hock, I checked out Kage Baker's "Mother Aegypt and other Stories". According to her website, Tor is reprinting "In the Garden of Iden" in paperback, along with bringing out the next Company book, "The Children of the Company". If you go to Paul Youll's site and look under the new images section, you'll see covers for both.

What's my countermission?
Jun. 13th, 2005 03:57 pmThe library continues to provide a continual stream of Alias DVDs, if out of order. I finally saw how the series began, only to jump forwards to the end of the second season. It's disorienting, but only moderately confusing. I really don't get Will's appeal at all. He just irritates me.
neadods linked the ever-so-tempting Great Courses with online courses on a number of subjects, including history and archaeology. I've been toying with the idea of going back and getting a real history degree, knowing damn well it's probably a mistake. This might be an interesting way of testing the waters. (Some of the programs are even available at my library, which I did not know.)

Alias on DVD
Jan. 29th, 2003 11:22 amOooh, I saw the news on TV Guide that the first season of "Alias" will be released as a DVD boxed set on Sept 2, 2003. About time. Now I can see how Sydney and dysfunctional family and friends got into this mess... with wigs and costumes!
I finally got around to watching my tapes from last night. "Alias" was another great episode, though I'm about ready to throttle Jack Bristow. (And Victor Garber manages that sinister but remote "Dear old Dad" thing *so* well) Who's the manipulator here - Mom or Daddy?
I also watched TNT's "The Big Time". After their treatment of "Witchblade", I marvel that I can say nice things about this network, but they still manage to put together some quality original movies occasionally. This one was set at the dawn of television in the 1940s. "Big Time" had the nostalgic feel of "Remember WENN", but *with* a budget. It's a pity TNT didn't pick up the option for a continuing series for this one. There was a lot of potential in the different characters and interplay. Even if I wanted to slap that golden boy ad man every once in awhile...
Work was the usual mess. Our delivery service included a misdelivery for a different location, plus left off some regular papers. The real load of mail didn't arrive until I was already printing out tomorrow's routing slips so I could leave. Our stay-in-school CJ student left Friday for a real job as a "community officer", which in DC parlance means parole officer.

The one irritating thing about discovering "Alias" is I can't watch the show live. Since I have to get up at oh-my-god in the morning, I have to go to bed about the same time the show airs. Very frustrating.

Today was a Monday. That really sums up just how bad my day was. When it starts off at 6am with the newspapers being two hours late, you know it's going to be one of *those* days.
The only bright spot was watching the Alias premiere I missed from last night. Okkkay. Lots to ponder for next week. Oh well I needed something to fill in Witchblade's shoes. Hmm... wonder if there are any Alias icons to be had online...
