How does Bama follow up beating Spurrier? They utterly embarrassed the Gators. It's so nice to have my alma mater winning again.

My NOLA friends returned to their home. They were really really lucky with only some minor damage. Their huge library is intact.

I saw "Serenity" last night after work. The crowd was fairly small. I was very nervous when a family of four, with two fairly young and fidgety children, sat behind me during the movie. But they settled down, so it wasn't a total disaster. I had attended a screening back in June in Norfolk, so it was interesting to compare what I saw with the final cut, mostly the addition of music score. Varese Sarabande is releasing both Serenity and Firefly soundtracks, so we get Big Damn Music finally! (The track listings on the "Serenity" soundtrack is really spoilery btw!)

Alas the job good news was short lived. I only worked on Thursday. It's a long story, but suffice to say, someone got their wires crossed. On the bright side, I may have a second phone interview for a different job sometime next week.

For "Swordspoint" fans, [livejournal.com profile] ellen_kushner has announced news on the third book. Set 20 years after "Swordspoint", the book will be called "The Privilege of the Sword" and set to be published in September 2006. She gave a reading from at-the-time untitled Privilege at the Washington DC World Fantasy Convention. She and Delia Sherman's readings were still memorable highlights for me. You can tell which authors have acting/diction training.

For some reason it reminds me of someone's comment about Mal in "Shindig" and how he knows how to dance but not duel. There's a story there, fanfic or otherwise.

We have a shiny new trailer and a new website design for Serenity. According to the promos, Sci Fi is going to be showing some behind the scenes stuff during future episodes.

Firefly fandom also has its own podcast called "The Signal". They've done four episodes thus far with interviews and features. They did a comparison of Han Solo and Malcolm Reynolds. They jokingly added a feature called "I like Chinese" with Mandarin phrases, except everyone loved it so much. There's an LJ feed at [livejournal.com profile] thesignal.

If you've gotten the first graphic novel, you'll notice they use the written Chinese characters, rather than the dialect. The Firefly-Serenity Chinese Pinyinary has translations.

A brand new "Serenity" trailer will debut during this Friday's episode of Firefly on Sci Fi Channel. It'll make its Internet debut shortly thereafter. Sci Fi isn't showing the series in widescreen format, but that seems to be the main complaint thus far. The first part of Serenity will air before the second part, if you missed it.

The international trailer for Serenity has debuted. They crammed in a lot more dialogue in this version, but also more of the humor. (That website also had 4 soundtrack samples.)

SciFi Channel has launched their own Firefly site.

Supposedly the first issue of Dark Horse's comic book series on Serenity is out, but I have not read it yet.

My local library recently added free wireless access in their main branch. I hadn't had a chance to test drive it until now. Since the weather is hot and humid and my apartment is in rebellion, I decided to disappear over here for a few hours to get some writing done. My running away from home probably won't last long. There is just something appealing about multi-tasking. Here I'm focused on the computer and occasionally scanning the shelves or staring out the window. But it's harder to get up and get that drink or watch a dvd while I write. I do think I get more done that way. Less writing, but more in the general housekeeping.

I moved around some of my smaller furniture to see if I could make some space. I'm still wild about having the trunk in the front hallway, but maybe I can dress it up somehow. I acquired a bunch of stuff when my parents moved. At some point I will need to do a real inventory and get rid of stuff.

I haven't had a real chance to comment on "Serenity". I saw the screening in Norfolk after an insanely long drive from Northern Virginia with two fellow Firefly fans. We had some construction that caused backups. Even the people leaving from Richmond or Charlottesville were having problems, so we felt a little better afterward. The trip back was a lot easier. The real problem with seeing these screenings is you have some people who have seen it before. And they like to quote. We had someone doing that during Joss' introduction which really needs to be heard without kibbitzing. Fortunately the fan next to me gave him a good hearty "Shhh" and glare and he quieted down during the movie. I found someone at the movie getting rid of a spare ticket and the house manager actually asked if anyone had any spares once we were inside which was nice of him. They gave out a lovely promo booklet with info on the cast and Joss and the movie, along with a nice keychain now adorning my motley collection.

I'm still deciding what to think about the movie itself. Squee is definitely there, but also Meep and Whimper comes to mind. It's a sheer rollercoaster. I'm really glad I stayed unspoiled for this though. Some things need to be seen to get the impact. And with Joss, it's usually right between the eyes.

Sci Fi Channel to show Firefly in correct order: I was worried initially when I looked at the schedule, until they updated it to reflect they're showing the pilot in the two parts.

Recent interview with Robia Lamorte: Her first encounter with ASH was amusing. She apparently took him for a producer, rather than a cast member.

New preview showings for "Serenity" have gone up at Can't Stop the Signal for June 23rd. DC People, don't even bother trying. Apparently it sold out in five minutes at midnight or thereabouts. I was online at insano hour and I still missed it! I'm resigned to September, because otherwise I figure out ways to Norfolk or Philly...

ETA: Eeps, it looks like I have a ticket and ride to Norfolk, courtesy of some local fans on Fireflyfans.net. Eeeeeeee!

Granted, most of my friends already have the DVD set or conversely have seen "Serenity" already... *grumbles, pouts* but apparently Sci Fi Channel is rerunning Firefly starting July 22nd to precede their Friday lineup. No news yet on whether Sci Fi will actually show the episodes in order or not. And the graphic novel mini series will debut in July as well from Dark Horse.

Hmph, the "Serenity" advance showing sold out pretty quick in DC. I would be in Lansing that night for Media West anyway. But, still, I must pout.

Second round of depressing shoe shopping today at Potomac Mills. The closest we came was the Rangoni outlet. I saw more AAAs and AAAAs there than I had seen anywhere. Alas I still had problems either with the heel or the toe depending. We even came back and tried Comfort One Shoes closer to us. I don't like being pressured and I especially don't like salespeople telling me how something seems to fit. Am I weird because I want it to feel comfortable now rather than when the shoe molds to me? Maybe I'll give SAS a look again. I'm really resigned to the idea of not finding shoes that fit.

And the agency gave me the feedback from the law firm that strangely suited today: "Not a good fit." The manager allowed as how I have the skills and ability to do the job, just not there.

Ooooh, we have a Serenity trailer! Now, whyfore do we have to wait until September? Evil Joss, but we knew this, years back.

Also, [livejournal.com profile] confettiofstars, I spotted "Sith" t-shirts today in Suncoast. I don't know what sizes they run, though.
hildy89: (serenity by coi)
Um, if the cover is any indication, I'll be quite happy with the "Serenity" graphic novel. Of course, comics are notorious for using one cover artist and a different interior one. According to Newsarama here, Dark Horse is publishing a three issue prequel, with the first issue out in July.

BBC is adapting Terry Pratchett's "Mort" for radio.

And Nathan Fillion tells us about returning to "Serenity". Have I said "I love my captain" lately? No? I should.

I hate typing with this brace. But that is probably the idea.

Fireflyfans.net has a shiny new Firefly Personality Quiz. I wound up Jayne somehow, arguably my least favorite character in the series. I even said no to firearms. I guess it was my winning personality... and well saying I'd go down fighting. (The Lonejack people will stop snickering. Different Jayne... same tendency to shoot from the hip though.)

Watched some more Firefly last night, leaving one disk left. *wah, me want more* Zoe and Inara kick *so* much butt. I really can't believe Fox killed this. Oh right... it's Fox. Maybe I can believe it.

I was reading Natsuemaya's Manga/Anime newsblog and learned that there will be "Voices of a Distant Star" manga starting in April.

[livejournal.com profile] aesthetic_icons is having an icon contest themed "My Favorite Artist". Since I adore the Pre-Raphaelites, I picked Sir Frank Dicksee (1853-1928) as my choice. The second one was my first attempt using templates so I hope it isn't too bad. The template was made by [livejournal.com profile] minttea.

Damn. This show is like insta-ship -- just add water.

Actually multiple ships at that.

Shoot me now.

I really didn't need a new fandom. No way. No how. I was doing fine. So I had a day off today and feeling bored said "Maybe I should try watching an episode or two of Firefly". About halfway through the pilot, though, I was darn near hooked. I had actually never watched any of it during its short run. Now I'm like everyone else... wondering why the show got canned. Why do I always find these shows?

*sighs*

CVS Marathon went well yesterday. I think I have some general idea of what I'll be working on for February. Now if I can just work out the particulars.
